🇮🇸 Iceland — Save for Later

Iceland waterfall
Skógafoss
Blue Lagoon
Blue Lagoon
Best when kids are 6 & 9 (2028–29)

✅ Strengths

  • Most otherworldly landscapes on Earth
  • Real geyser eruptions = living fantasy
  • Blue Lagoon, hidden waterfalls, lava caves
  • Cheapest flights (direct!)

⚠️ Limitations

  • Driving required — bad for car sickness
  • No train alternative
  • No castles or fairy tale towns
  • Limited city depth

Why wait? When Arya outgrows car sickness and Zian can hike more, Iceland will be magical. Self-drive the South Coast at your own pace.

🇳🇱 Netherlands — The Train & Castle Option

Amsterdam
Best value + best for Arya's car sickness

✅ Strengths

  • World-class trains — Arya's car sickness solved
  • Zian travels free, Arya €2.50/day
  • Efteling — legendary fairytale theme park
  • De Haar Castle — largest in Netherlands
  • Amsterdam canals, museums, Anne Frank House
  • Cheapest of the four destinations

⚠️ Limitations

  • Flatter landscape (less dramatic than Switzerland/Scotland)
  • Amsterdam can be crowded in summer
  • Fewer "wow" natural moments
Chillon Castle

🎯 The Bottom Line

Netherlands is the best value — cheapest overall, best June weather, world-class trains (Arya's car sickness solved), Efteling for fantasy, De Haar castle for magic. Kids travel cheap (Zian free, Arya €2.50/day).

Switzerland remains the premium pick — best weather in July, Swiss Family Card (kids free on all trains), most castles, most city depth. More expensive but worth it.

Scotland is the wildcard — Hogwarts Express alone is a fantasy dream for the kids. Edinburgh is walkable. Castles everywhere. Train-friendly. A strong contender.

Iceland is the future trip — save for when kids are 6 & 9 and can appreciate the landscapes more.
